In keeping faith with
deliberations and recommendations during the successfully organized
Northern Peace Summit by the Centre for Crisis Prevention and Peace Advocacy
(CCPPA) in conjunction with AYCRP on the 10th and 11th of January 2013, and
following recent consultations, CCPPA respectfully writes to notify the public of a two-day Northern Peace and Reconciliation Conference to be held at Arewa house in Kaduna.
While emphasizing our
laudable objectives and noble intentions as far as sustainable peace is
concerned especially in Nigeria, we also appreciate the efforts of our outstanding Peace Advocates in trying to achieve lasting peace in Northern Nigeria for the much desired
impact of national development. The central role of all
Institutions in establishing strong processes and mechanisms that would set
the conditions for positive peace, full justice and social reconstruction
cannot be over emphasized while bearing in mind the complexities which test
stability and strength; worthy of note also is the need for concerted efforts
by all and sundry as complementary efforts since we are all stakeholders in the
Nigeria Project.
It may interest the general public to note that in due consultation, sensitization and advocacy, the above
mentioned organization is staging a two-day Peace and Reconciliation Conference
which is expected to draw a
cross-section of stakeholders including Federal and State Ministries,
Departments and Agencies, Top Government Functionaries, Religious Leaders,
Royal Fathers, Academics, Captains of Industries, Institutions, Non-
Governmental Organizations, Faith Based Organizations, Community Based
Organizations, Women Organizations, Youth Organizations/ Associations from and
in the Northern part of Nigeria.
The event is scheduled to
take place as follows:
Date: 25th and 26th of October 2013.
Time: 10 am daily.
Venue: Arewa House
Auditorium, No. 1 Rabah Road, Kaduna-Kaduna State.
Theme: Fostering
Peace, Stability and Reconciliation in Northern Nigeria.
The Peace and Reconciliation
Conference will provide an opportunity for removing the barriers of distrust
through joint identification of the root causes of conflicts and violence
through a dialogue process oriented undertaking while integrating religious and
cultural perspectives to the seeming complicated process of reconciliation,
creating a road-map for renewed relationship building and strengthening of dialogue
structures.
While thanking the peace loving people
of our great country, we urge all and sundry to remain calm, eschew violence as the clarion call
for peaceful coexistence, better security measures for the protection of lives
and properties in a bid to reap the benefits that come from having a stabilized
society.
